About us
Universal Credit Essentials was started in June 2016 by a couple of Universal Credit claimants.
Both had been claiming for a few months and wanted to create a new group for other claimants to get access to helpful and supportive advice.
It was clear from their experiences there wasn't a lot of knowledge out there for claimants to learn how to manage their claims. So many untruths about Universal Credit out there and they were determined that people could make the best out of the situation they had been pushed into. Very quickly the group grew and it was amazing how many people turned to Facebook as a way to find the answers.
UCE now has a team of about 12 admin. All our posts are approved individually by someone on the team to ensure that each post gets proper attention and the right advice and information given.
Along the way, the group has helped people recover large sums of money in missing entitlement for claimants. The group admin also help members understand their payment breakdown and what the implications are of making changes.
A large part of what we do is helping members understand if they really do need to claim Universal Credit. Due to how many benefits UC replaces and the differences in entitlement, we are finding often that people have been told to claim and really they would be worse off.
We walk members through the steps of establishing their claim and sorting any errors in what can quite often be an emotional and daunting time.
All our team are just normal people doing this in our spare time. Some of us claim Universal Credit, some of us just have a lust for learning all the legislation it's based on and we all just want to make sure people get what they are entitled to, to help push them through.
